Gary L. Eastman  attended San Diego State University earning a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. Following graduation, Mr. Eastman worked for several years as an electrical engineer for the navy labs and a San Diego defense contractor. During that time, Mr. Eastman gained extensive experience in the design of embedded controllers, optical communication links, antennas, and real-time data storage hardware.

Mr. Eastman earned a Juris Doctorate from California Western School of Law in 1995. Upon completion of law school, Mr. Eastman began his career as an associate for a San Diego based patent law firm before forming his own firm to focus on counseling start up and emerging technology companies with an emphasis on the development of strong intellectual property portfolios.

Over the course of his career as an attorney, Mr. Eastman has been of Counsel to San Diego law firms, as well as the Director of Intellectual Property for a San Diego optical telecom company where he led the development of a comprehensive DWDM optical communication patent portfolio and facilitated the successful solicitation of critical funding through private placement and venture capital resources. Mr. Eastman has represented clients in diverse technologies, such as optical communications, adaptive optics systems, wireless communications systems, laser technology, software, material sciences, medical instrumentation, action sports industries, construction and specialty tool design, battery technologies, solar energy collection and optimization, and energy management and conservation technologies.

In addition to assisting clients with the development of strong intellectual property portfolios, Mr. Eastman also assists his clients with the identification and evaluation of strategic partners, alliances, acquisitions, licenses, and the development of strategies to initiate and strengthen a client’s business through those relationships.

Mr. Eastman holds valid California Contractors licenses in the areas of Electrical and General Building. This familiarity with industry standards and requirements, along with his formal training as an Electrical Engineer, provides a unique benefit to his clients on the leading edge of energy harvesting, production, automation, and management technologies.

Mr. Eastman’s strong preference is to avoid litigation through business strategy, vigilance and thorough preparation. However, when the need arises, Mr. Eastman vigorously represents his clients in legal disputes related to Intellectual property and related business issues. Mr. Eastman has been lead counsel in over 50 Federal lawsuits involving Intellectual Property and related business, and over 25 State court cases. As an attorney that actively develops his clients’ IP portfolios and businesses, Mr. Eastman is well suited to provide results-oriented representation and strives to reach resolution quickly and efficiently.

Mr. Eastman is a member of the California Bar and Licensed to practice in all courts of California, the Federal District Courts for the Southern, Central, Northern, and Eastern Districts of California, the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals, the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, and the United States Supreme Court, and is also registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

Mr. Eastman is also a member of the San Diego County Bar Association, Federal Bar Association, San Diego Intellectual Property Law Association, and contributes his time as a Board Member for the Malashock Dance Company, the Point Loma Rotary Club, and several youth sports leagues.
